What Are Scale Drawings Can You Give An Example

Scale drawings

Scaling is a drawing method used to enlarge or reduce a drawing in size while keeping the proportions of the cartoon the same. Scales are generally expressed equally ratios and the most common scales used in furniture drawing are one:1, 1:2, 1:five, and 1:10 for reducing and possibly two:1 for enlarging.

Scaling is used to either:

  • reduce the cartoon in size so that information technology will fit onto the folio, or
  • enlarge the cartoon in size so that all required details are conspicuously visible.

Drawings can be scaled upwards or down using either a calculator or a scale rule.

To scale a cartoon using a calculator:

  • dissever the measurement by the scale if you desire to reduce the cartoon in size, or
  • multiply the measurement by the calibration if you want to increase it in size.

Case 1: Scaling downwardly

  • A 50mm line is to exist fatigued at a scale of i:5 (ie v times less than its original size). The measurement 50mm is divided past five to give 10mm. A 10mm line is drawn.
  • A 50mm line is to be drawn at a scale of one:2. The measurement 50mm is divided by 2 to give 25mm. A 25mm line is drawn.

Example 2: Scaling up

  • A 50mm line is to exist drawn at a scale of 5:1 (ie v times more than its original size). The measurement 50mm is multiplied by v to give 250mm. A 250mm line is drawn.
  • A 50mm line is to be drawn at a scale of ii:ane. The measurement 50mm is multiplied by 2 to give 100mm. A 100mm line is drawn.

To scale a cartoon using a scale rule:

Calibration rules allow u.s.a. to direct set up out measurements onto a drawing without having to catechumen them to their scaled sizes by using a computer starting time.

The whole process is fabricated easier considering these conversions are already made for the states. On a calibration rule which has divisions of 1:5, each partitioning represents 5mm and the measurements on the dominion betoken this.

Scale rulers.

On a scale dominion which has divisions of ane:10 each division represents 10mm and the measurements on the dominion indicate this.

Even though the drawing itself may be reduced in size or drawn at an enlarged size on the page, all dimensioning on the drawing should reflect the right sizes of the particular existence drawn.

This is an example of a scaled drawing. Discover that the elevation is drawn at a scale of ane:10.

Included in the cartoon is detail A, and this is drawn additionally at a scale of i:1, or total size.
